20th Annual Salisbury Confederate Prison Symposium

April 28-30, 2017


The Robert F. Hoke Chapter 78 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be hosting its

Annual Salisbury Confederate Prison Symposium, April 28-30, 2017. 

Come learn in a friendly setting more about the only Confederate States military prison placed in North Carolina.

It was active from December 1861 to February 1865.  The event begins on Friday, April 28, with Friendship Banquet, lecture, music, recognition of veterans, and door
prizes.  Scheduled for Saturday, April 29, are 6 lectures, light refreshments, displays, and books.  On Sunday, April 30, there are two (2) public Memorial Services,

a 10:00 am Memorial Service for prisoners at the Salisbury National Cemetery and an 11:00 am Service for guards at the Old
Lutheran Cemetery.  There will be an afternoon tour of the Prison site for registrants

The scheduled speakers and subjects include: Author and Historian Robert Carpenter of NC - Senior Reserve Prison guard from Gaston Co. NC; Historian
Dr. Kevin Cherry of NC - Resources concerning the Prison; Author and Historian Dr. Gary Freeze of NC - Introduction to the Prison; Historian and
Descendant Ron Nichols of WI - Salisbury POW from Wisconsin; Archaeologist Ken Robinson of NC - 2005 and 2012 studies of the Prison; Historian and
Descendant Geoffrey Ryder, M.D. of CO - PTSD among prisoners; and Author and Historian Dr. Jim Tootle of OH - Baseball played at the Prison.

Registration for the Symposium is $65 per person when postmarked by April 7, 2017; 
$75 afterwards. $15 charge for refunds after April 14, 2017.

No refunds after April 21, 2017.
